2hr 37min journey from Chennai to Thiruvakkarai fossil wood park is a part of cuddalore formation. The site is being excellently maintained by GSI ( Geological Survey of India ). Fossilized woods of various Angiosperms and Gymnosperms aged at least 20 Million years could be spotted here. This is just the start travelling backwards approx 1km there is redish brown mottled cuddalore sandstone expositions wherein true beauty of cuddalore formation wood fossils could be seen. Though the fossil wood park has natural preservations in its setup, true sediments and preservation of wood fossil is embedded tight within the soils of Cuddalore Badland topography. A Sunday field trip filled with a tricky and extremely sunny style went just amazing after a long time.
