The sub-natural method through which mussels are cultivated within a year to produce Pearl is called Pearl cultivation. For the first time idea of the Pearl culture was evoked in Japan which was carried out in the bay of Japan located at the south coast of Hanso. The common misperception, Mikimoto did not discover the process of Pearl culture. The accepted process of pearl culture was developed by the British Biologist William Saville-Kent in Australia and was brought to Japan by Tokichi Nishikawa and Tatsuhei Mise. Nishikawa was granted a patent for Pearl culture and soon married the daughter of Mikimoto. Now Mikimoto was able to use Nishikawa's idea over-cultivation of Pearl. After the patent was granted in 1916 the technology was immediately commercially applied to Akoya Pearl oysters in Japan. Mitsubishi was the first to produce a cultured south sea Pearl. By 1928 first commercial crop for Pearls was successfully produced. Now we have Pearl farmers around the world to cultivate Pearl for markets.
